Changshou Wind and Rain Bridge

Changshou Wind and Rain Bridge, also known as Changshou Bridge, was originally built in the sixth year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1801) and has undergone several renovations since. At that time, the banks of the Meijiang River that ran through the county town were home to many long-lived elderly residents, so the section of the Meijiang within the county was called the Longevity River, and the bridge spanning it came to be known as the Longevity Bridge. The bridge was most recently renovated in March 2002 and completed in February 2004. It boasts both the grandeur of modern architecture and the classic charm of traditional design. Not only does it offer visitors a place to enjoy the riverside scenery, relax, and unwind for physical and mental refreshment—where people and the bridge together reach an auspicious state of longevity—but it also plays an immeasurably profound role in improving the local environment and developing cultural tourism and the economy. Wang Guangying and Qi Gong inscribed characters for the bridge, while Pan Qi and Wu Shanmao left behind calligraphy works. Local elders from Mengshan, including veteran writer Liang Yusheng, Huang Baiyu, and Li Yongren, composed couplets for the bridge. Liang Yusheng’s couplet reads: "Long sword raised high, songs echo as the Meijiang rainbow gleams with sword’s radiance; longevity stars smile, as Mengshan’s age-old town responds to their celestial glow."
