Liuzhou Museum

Liuzhou Museum is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Situated on the east side of People's Square in Liuzhou, Guangxi, Liuzhou Museum is a comprehensive national key museum with advanced facilities and modern functions.

The museum houses a collection of more than 36,000 cultural relics, with main displays including the "Liuzhou History and Culture Exhibition," "Exhibition of Ethnic Customs of Liuzhou Minorities," "Ancient Bronze Exhibition," "Ancient Calligraphy and Paintings on Fans Exhibition," and "Ancient Ceramics Exhibition," showcasing the ethnic culture and history of Liuzhou to visitors.

As a national AAAA-level cultural relic tourism site, Liuzhou Museum covers an area of 39 mu, with a building area of 16,600 square meters and an exhibition area of 8,000 square meters. It includes the Liuhou Ancestral Temple Cultural Relic Scenic Area and the Dongmen City Tower Cultural Relic Scenic Area.

The main structure of Liuzhou Museum is built with granite storm stones in the style of an ancient city gate tower. Its exterior corridor features 21 carved reliefs, symbolizing Liuzhou in the 21st century and its 2,100-year history. These carvings reflect prehistoric civilization, ethnic and folk culture, and modern culture of Liuzhou. Permanent exhibitions include the "History Hall," "Ethnic Hall," "Bronze Hall," "Fan and Calligraphy Painting Hall," "Paleontological Fossil Hall," a multifunctional activity hall, and an academic lecture hall. Through scenic setups and authentic cultural relics from different historical periods, the museum recreates the historical landscape of Liuzhou and showcases the charm of the ancient city.

The History Hall displays hundreds of historical relics from the Paleolithic Age to the Republic of China period, reflecting the development and evolution of Liuzhou’s history and culture through aspects such as social change, economic culture, and daily life.

The Ethnic Hall showcases the Zhuang mountain songs, Miao festivals, Yao dances, and Dong architecture, as well as various folk crafts including brocade, embroidery, ceramics, bamboo weaving, and rattan weaving. It also features the Ganlan-style dwellings of the Zhuang people, traditional medicine of the Yao and Miao ethnic groups, and the folk literature and art of each ethnic group.

The Bronze Hall displays over 150 bronze artifacts from the museum’s collection, including a Western Zhou cloud-and-thunder-patterned trumpet-shaped bronze vessel, a Western Zhou human-faced-patterned bronze sword, a Western Zhou spiral-inlay bronze bell, a Warring States cicada-patterned sheep-horn-handle bell, a Warring States boot-shaped battle-axe, a Warring States human-faced and frog-patterned sword, a Han Dynasty bronze distiller, and an Eastern Han Dynasty standing-frog bronze drum.

The Fan and Calligraphy Painting Hall exhibits over 200 exquisite fan paintings and calligraphies from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the modern era in the museum’s collection.

The Paleontological Fossil Hall displays a rich variety of fossils spanning a long time frame, from China’s earliest...

...Chengjiang Biota fossil group (Cambrian Period, 570 million years ago) to the Quaternary Period mammal fossils of Liuzhou. The exhibition hall features multimedia films such as "The Tragic Story of Psittacosaurus," "Evolution of Paleontological Fossils," and "The Extinction of Dinosaurs" that play on rotation.
