Long Dragon Bridge
Long Dragon Bridge is located beside Xinxing Street in Huangyao Town, at the foot of Zhenwu Mountain. The bridge is 22.7 meters long and about 3 meters wide; it consists of a water arch and a dry arch. Normally, water flows through the water arch, but during flood season when the water level rises, water flows through the dry arch instead. It was built by Deng Taihe, a late Ming Dynasty imperial examination candidate, but was later destroyed by floods. In the 23rd year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1758), local gentry Gu Zhixian rebuilt the bridge and also constructed a building called Long Dragon Tower next to it. Long Dragon Tower was demolished in 1958, but the bridge remains well-preserved to this day.
As a symbol of the ancient town, Huangyao’s Long Dragon Bridge also appeared on a set of Chinese postage stamps featuring ancient towns issued in 2016.
