The Guijiang River stretches 426 kilometers in total and shares the same source as the Li River. The Li River, after joining the Chajiang River from Pingle and the Lijiang River from Lipu downstream of Yangshuo, continues to the Wuzhou section and is collectively referred to as the Guijiang River. While the Li River resembles a delicate young lady, the Guijiang River is like a graceful lady of noble birth—wide, deep, serene, and exquisitely beautiful, green as jade, with towering gorges lining both banks.

The great Tang Dynasty poet Song Zhiwen once wrote poems praising the Guijiang: “The river bends as clouded cliffs shift, the sky narrows where misty peaks cluster,” and “Massive rocks lurk among strange mountains, deep bamboo groves hide immortal caves.” During the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, Zhang Jiuling, honored as the “Number One Prime Minister of Lingnan,” also composed verses in admiration: “Peculiar peaks turn before the shore, lush trees gather in hidden nooks.”

Songlin Gorge is an important part of the Guijiang cruise.

Here, the river water flows like a sash of emerald silk, naturally exquisite, with verdant green mountains and bamboo groves lining both banks. The natural scenery along the way is richly diverse, blending magnificently with the spectacular view of “lofty gorges giving rise to tranquil lakes.”
