Hongshan Forest Park is situated to the east of Chaozhou’s ancient city. It lies in a high hilly area transitioning from mountainous terrain to plains, featuring undulating ridges, lush peaks, misty treetops, scattered scenic rocks, and meandering springs. The highest peak, standing at an elevation of 497.2 meters, dominates the center of the park and serves as the highest point in the urban area of Chaozhou. The park stretches 5.22 kilometers from north to south and 4.17 kilometers from east to west, covering a total area of 933 hectares. Designated as a provincial-level forest park in 1993, Hongshan is one of Guangdong’s top ten forest parks. With its beautiful environment—lush mountains, verdant forests, rich grasslands, and clear springs—the dense woodland and interwoven mountain ponds and streams create a relatively tranquil forested space. The park offers a variety of tourism services including forest tours, hiking and sightseeing, mountain sports, cultural entertainment, woodland wellness, vacation fitness, and scientific educational excursions. It officially opened to the public on January 22, 2001. Leveraging its exceptional natural resources, the park has developed nearly 20 recreational facilities such as a grass-skiing slope, go-kart track, horse riding field, archery range, winding paths leading to serene spots, and the “Heaven on Earth” bar. These allow visitors to experience the thrill of “flying over the grass,” enjoy a whole new “heavenly” sensation, and witness the elegance of horseback riders. Surrounded by slopes adorned with flowers, grass, and green trees, the park also houses supporting amenities such as a Chinese restaurant, fast-food outlet, karaoke lounge, and stone forest tea house, where guests can savor diverse cuisines or enjoy fragrant tea. With people surrounded by greenery, birds chirping, and the ambiance of tea and scenery, the second phase of the project—including the Guanyin Sacred Scenic Area, art gallery featuring works by renowned artists, business conference center, Jinja Manor, Golden Ring Villas, Golden Fortune Premium Villa Area, “Fish Leaping Over the Dragon Gate” attraction, sci-fi exploration zone, and children’s play area—is set to open soon. Upon completion, the park will fully provide a comprehensive suburban forest park near the city where visitors can return to nature, find tranquility, and enjoy the scenery of southern subtropical regions, establishing it as the forest tourism hub of eastern Guangdong.
