Fenggang Ancient Village in Haojiang District, Shantou City, was built in 1319 AD. The existing ancient architecture mainly dates back to the late Qing Dynasty and the Republican era, and is largely well-preserved. Located in the southeastern part of Majiao Subdistrict, Haojiang, the village covers an area of about 4 square kilometers and has a population of around 7,000. In recent years, Majiao Subdistrict has taken a series of measures to protect Fenggang Ancient Village, including strengthening publicity and promotion, improving and perfecting protection mechanisms, and increasing financial investment. In 2010, the “Fenggang Pearl Goddess Temple Fair” was listed as an intangible cultural heritage of Shantou City.

In January 2013, Fenggang Ancient Village was listed as a Guangdong Provincial Ancient Village. In January 2014, it was officially designated as a “China Ancient Village” by the China Folk Literature and Art Association.

With a long history and abundant preserved ancient architecture, Fenggang Village is a uniquely charming coastal ancient fishing village in eastern Guangdong. The ancient village follows the traditional architectural style of Chaoshan residences, built against Fenggang Mountain with an irregular yet well-arranged layout that reflects simplicity and antiquity, embodying deep clan values. After centuries of development and cultural accumulation, Fenggang Village has a longstanding tradition of valuing literature and education, along with a rich folk culture. The Fenggang Pearl Goddess Temple Fair and dragon boat races are well-known throughout the Chaoshan region.

When visiting Fenggang Village, besides watching the tides rise and fall and listening to the waves crash on the shore, the uniquely rugged rocks and ancient banyan trees scattered throughout the village are also distinctive sights not to be missed. “Fenggang is full of peculiar rocks”—the Mother-of-Pearl Rock, Turtle-Crab Rock, Snake Head Rock, and Firecracker Rock here are not only uniquely shaped but also associated with many mythical legends.

Majiao Subdistrict: Located on the southwestern bank of —, bordering — to the east and the South China Sea to the south, Majiao Subdistrict covers a total area of 7.8 square kilometers with a population of nearly 30,000 and over 4,700 households.
