Suez Bay Mangrove Wetland

The mangrove forest located along Nanbin Road is the largest in eastern Guangdong and the only remaining natural secondary mangrove in downtown Shantou. This mangrove is situated in Suez Bay of Haojiang District, at the foot of Bijia Mountain in the urban area. It is a natural secondary mangrove covering nearly 200 acres and is home to species such as Kandelia obovata, Aegiceras corniculatum, sea hibiscus, Clerodendrum inerme, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Thespesia populnea, and mouse deer mangrove. More remarkably, this forest attracts thousands of migratory birds.

These migratory birds include the nationally protected yellow-billed egret, as well as grey geese, swans, and others. From a distance, the bird flocks display striking black-and-white contrasts, sometimes foraging leisurely on the mudflats and other times soaring into the blue sky, creating a truly delightful sight.
