Jiangtun Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument

The Jiangtun Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

The Jiangtun Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument in Guangning County is situated on the hilltop of SheXue (now Jiangtun Middle School) in the southeast corner of Jiangtun Town. It was first constructed in October 1951. In May 1961, the People's Government of Guangning County mobilized workers to exhume the remains of 43 martyrs buried on the hilltop, placing each in a golden stupa and relocating them to a centralized burial site on the hilltop. The original monument was demolished, and a new Revolutionary Martyrs' Monument was erected in front of a newly built circular tomb.

The monument faces south with its back to the north. The base is hexagonal, approximately 2 meters wide, with decorative brick edges about 1 meter high. The main body of the monument is square, roughly 0.8 meters wide and 3 meters tall. The left side of the front face is engraved with the names of the 43 martyrs in granite, while the right side displays the construction date and the erecting authority (People's Government of Guangning County). The top of the monument resembles a pen tip. The entire structure stands about 5 meters tall, giving it the appearance of a rocket poised for launch.

Every year before Qingming Festival, local residents from Jiangtun, Lianhe, and nearby areas come with deep reverence, carrying flower baskets to mourn the martyrs and pay tribute to their spirits. Reflecting on the martyrs’ heroic deeds, people are filled with solemn admiration. The sound of firecrackers and rising smoke transport visitors back to the turbulent years of war, almost making the martyrs’ brave sacrifices come alive before their eyes.
