Changleju Watchtower

Changleju Watchtower is a classic red tourism attraction.

Changleju Watchtower is located on the northeastern edge of Jiaozan Village, Jiaozan Community, Chikeng Town, Guangning County, Zhaoqing City, Guangdong Province. It is a watchtower built in the early years of the Republic of China. Oriented from northwest to southeast, it has a brick-and-wood structure, with a width of 9.82 meters, a depth of 7.84 meters, and an area of 77 square meters. The building has four floors, walls 0.6 meters thick, a stone door frame, and the lintel is inscribed with the three characters “Changleju” (Long Joy Abode) in intaglio. Each floor has windows and gun ports. The tiled roof and wooden floorboards and staircases have been removed, leaving only the walls. Jiaozan Village, where the watchtower is located, was once the headquarters of the Command of the Guangdong-Guangxi-Hunan Border Column. Soldiers of the unit were stationed here for extended periods, and supplies were stored there, providing valuable physical evidence for the study of Guangning County’s revolutionary struggle history.

Chikeng Town is located in the northern part of Guangning County, covering an area of 181 square kilometers. It has 17,673 mu of arable land and 230,000 mu of mountainous land. The town currently administers 12 neighborhood committees and 1 residential committee, with a population of 22,000. In 1999, the total social output value of the town was 272,235,730 yuan, and the total industrial and agricultural output value was 262,185,730 yuan, of which the industrial output value was 225,190,000 yuan.
