Xijiang River in Zhaoqing

The Xijiang River flows through the entire territory of Zhaoqing, with its northern bank being the urban area of Zhaoqing and the southern bank the urban area of Gaoyao. This stretch of the river boasts beautiful scenery and numerous historical sites, and can be explored by boat. The main attractions along the Xijiang River are all included within the “Three Gorges”—Lingyang Gorge, Dading Gorge, and Sanrong Gorge—among which the most famous is “Inkstone Islet and Breezy Charm.”

Legend has it that when the upright official Bao Zheng left Duanzhou, the local people, in gratitude for his service, presented him with a Duan inkstone. Refusing to accept any gifts due to his integrity, Bao threw it into the Xijiang River, where it transformed into a small island. To commemorate Bao Zheng, locals named the island “Yanzhou Island” and built the Temple of Bao Gong there. Later generations referred to this place as “Inkstone Islet and Breezy Charm.” In addition, the “Xijiang Three Gorges” feature other scenic spots such as Lingxia Returning Sails, Taixi Sunset Glow, Baisha Moonlit Night, and Rongxia Fishing Platform.

The Xijiang River has excellent water quality, with clear blue waters teeming with plump and delicious river fish. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy the tasty river delicacies sourced from the Xijiang.
