Wurong Tourist Scenic Area

Wurong Tourist Scenic Area is located in Wurong, Nan'an Town, where rolling mountains, lush forests, and an elegant environment create stunning scenery — a true gem for the development of resort tourism. In spring, the meadows among the woods burst into a riot of colorful blooms, filling the air with fragrance. The area enjoys abundant rainfall, pristine mountains, and clear waters, with dense woodlands forming a 4,000-hectare primeval secondary forest. It is home to over 2,000 species of wild plants and more than 300 cultivated plant varieties. The region boasts a rich diversity of subtropical plants, numerous relict species, a high proportion of woody plants, and a dominance of evergreen flora. It also exhibits five key characteristics of subtropical vegetation: climbing plants, buttress roots, epiphytes, cauliflory, and strangler plants.

Among them, the Wurong Pagoda is a provincial-level cultural heritage site, situated on Wurong Hill within the scenic area. Built during the Tianqi era of the Ming Dynasty, it is an octagonal, seven-story brick-and-stone pagoda with a pavilion-style structure, standing 39.2 meters tall. It is a through-pierced, veranda-wrapped brick pagoda with a hexagonal appearance. Aside from the three gates on the ground floor and two gates on the seventh floor, each of the other five floors has four gates. All gates feature sturdy brick arch structures. Like a historical giant, the Wurong Pagoda quietly guards a bend of the Xijiang River, witnessing the passage of time and weathering wind and rain without budging. It not only records the enduring architectural culture of the people of Gaoyao but also embodies their deep love for life and hometown. From the top of the pagoda, one can gaze upon the mighty Xijiang River flowing eastward like a silk ribbon, surrounded by large and small green hills — a truly uplifting sight.
