Mufu Mountain Forest Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national forest park.

Mufu Mountain Forest Park is located in the northern part of Pingjiang County at the junction of Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi provinces. It serves as the northern barrier of Hunan Province and is one of the three major mountain ranges in the province. The main peak stands at an elevation of 1,597.6 meters, and the park covers a total area of 1,100 hectares. It is renowned for its majestic mountains, steep cliffs, peculiar rocks, lush forests, and beautiful waters.

The park features undulating mountains, striking peaks, deep valleys, serene ancient temples, birdsong and monkey calls, ever-changing sea of clouds and mist, uniquely shaped pines and rocks that spark wonder, historic inscriptions still clearly visible, ancient passes and historic roads where the Wu and Chu states once vied for dominance—all forming a naturally exquisite landscape and distinctive cultural scenery. Notable attractions include: Sunset Glow on Red Cliffs, Immortals Playing Chess, Bamboo Sweeping the Terrace, Three Acres of Rocky Fields, Dominating the Southern Sky, Dragon Pool Waterfall, Turtle Gazing at the Moon, Eagle Spreading Its Wings, Boiling Sand Ancient Well, and Tianyue Ancient Battlefield, totaling forty-eight sites.

The park is 160 kilometers from Changsha, 80 kilometers from Yueyang, and 220 kilometers from Wuhan—so even travelers from Guangdong or Shanghai can reach it within a day. Mufu Mountain has an average annual temperature range of 9.4–13.1°C. In summer, it is cool and lush with greenery, few mosquitoes, fresh air, and high concentrations of negative ions, making it an ideal destination for leisure, summer retreat, and convalescence. The sea of clouds and mist in spring, the refreshing coolness of summer, the sunrise and sunset in autumn, and the snow-covered landscapes in deep winter are all breathtakingly beautiful, refreshing to the spirit, and unforgettable.

The precursor to the forest park was the Mufu State-owned Forest Farm in Pingjiang County. In 1995, it was approved by the Pingjiang County Government to establish a county-level forest park, and in 2001, it was promoted to a provincial-level forest park with approval from the People's Government of Hunan Province. Through years of development, the park has taken initial shape, offering a forest tourism experience that includes flower viewing in spring, summer retreats, autumn hiking, and winter snow appreciation. The late Vice Chairman Zhang Zhen inscribed the name of the park.

In recent years, the park has made full use of its advantages to develop various attractions, including the Huangshan Pine Scenic Garden, Hundred Bamboo Garden, Rare Plants Garden, Yunjin Azalea Viewing Garden, Laolong Valley Exploration Area, and Longtan Primeval Forest Tourist Area. It has also developed the Dan Cliff Scenic Area, known for its rugged beauty, and the Grassland Sightseeing Belt of Liushui'an Plateau, famed for its picturesque landscapes. Meanwhile, the park’s tourism service facilities have been continuously improved, with supporting amenities such as hotels, restaurants, shopping centers, and comprehensive wellness and recreational services becoming increasingly complete. The number of visitors drawn to the park has increased year by year, reaching tens of thousands in 2001, demonstrating tremendous development potential.
