"Crack!” With the sharp sound of the starting gun, over 170 mountain bikers and more than 130 hiking athletes shot off toward the mountaintop like arrows from a bow... At 1 p.m. on the 2nd, the 'Liweimei Cup' Mountain Biking & Hiking Competition among counties (cities) adjacent to Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi was inaugurated at the picturesque Fushou Mountain in Pingjiang County, Yueyang City.
After an intense competition, three athletes—Chen Kai from Pingjiang Giant Team, Cao Jiancheng from Liuyang Starting Point Cycling Team, Yuan Wei from Liuyang Starting Point Cycling Team—and the Pingjiang No.1 High School Hiking Team stood out, each winning first place in their respective categories.
Fushou Mountain features high elevation, dense forests, and typical mountain forest landscapes and climate, with its highest peak reaching nearly 1,600 meters above sea level, making it ideal for low-carbon aerobic activities such as mountain biking and hiking to the summit. In early December 2011, the Fushou Mountain-Miluo River Scenic Area Management Committee issued a challenge to outdoor sports enthusiasts from three neighboring provinces—Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi. Within just 20 days, over 300 outdoor sports enthusiasts from nine counties (cities) including Tongcheng, Xiushui, Liuyang, and Xiangyin gathered in Pingjiang. The mountain biking event was divided into men’s youth, men’s middle-aged and senior, and women’s categories, with individual rankings based on finish times. The hiking group event was a team competition, with four members per team, including at least one female participant, and rankings determined by team arrival times. This competition aimed to promote mountain biking and hiking culture, showcase Pingjiang’s tourism resources, and highlight the area’s outdoor sports spirit.
