Goose Spring

Standing on the summit of Mount Wudang and looking westward about five kilometers away, within the ancient Shiyang Cave, a clear spring gushes out—that is “Goose Spring”! The spring never dries up, its water is especially clear and cool, crystal-clear as a mirror, flowing continuously all year round. A poem praises it: “In drought, scorched dust flows unabated; in rain, even if the Kunlun Mountains pour, its volume does not increase.” The entire 50,000-mu of farmland in the ancient Shiyang Cave relies entirely on this single Goose Spring for irrigation. No one knows where Goose Spring actually comes from, nor can it be verified. The surface of the spring covers about one mu, and its annual water output reaches 18.81 million cubic meters—equivalent to a medium-sized reservoir. Shiyang Goose Spring has been listed as an entry in the Cihai (a comprehensive Chinese encyclopedia) and is hailed as the “Number One Spring in the South.”
