The ancient well in Pengzicheng Village is a protected cultural heritage site of Hunan Province.

Pengzicheng Village in Jiantou Town, Xintian County is an ancient settlement and a renowned historical and cultural village in Hunan Province. Among its most famous features are its ancient wells.

Pengzicheng Village originally had seventy-two ancient wells, and twenty-four remain to this day. Among the surviving ancient wells, the largest, most famous, best-preserved, and still in use is the “Muxi Rhinoceros Well.” It earned its name from a rock inside the well that strikingly resembles a rhinoceros lying in the water. Next to the Rhinoceros Well are several stone inscriptions indicating that the well has existed here for over eight hundred years.
