Snow Peak Lake Geopark

Approved and designated by the Hunan Provincial Department of Land and Resources on April 22, 2003, Snow Peak Lake Geopark is a flagship brand for eco-tourism in Anhua’s mountains and waters.

Situated in the central section of the Xuefeng Mountain Range, Snow Peak Lake Geopark covers an area of 68,378 square kilometers and spans 10 towns in Anhua County. The famous Zhexi Reservoir lies at the center of the park. The area boasts picturesque landscapes of verdant mountains and clear waters. Approved by relevant provincial and municipal authorities, it encompasses four major scenic tourism zones: the Zhexi Scenic Area, Zhexi Provincial Forest Park, Malu Scenic Area, and Liubuxi Nature Reserve.

With a forest coverage rate of 85%, Snow Peak Lake Geopark is home to 39 plant species under national key protection, including the rare “golden-inlaid jade bamboo,” which covers an area of one square kilometer within the park. The exposed strata in the park are comprehensive, featuring formations ranging from the Mesoproterozoic to the Cenozoic eras, with the Sinian Nantuo Group glacial diamictite and muddy rocks widespread throughout. It is a geopark characterized by blue skies, clear waters, emerald peaks, unique caves, serene rock formations, and rich cultural heritage rooted in “Meishan Culture.” It showcases ancient, mysterious, peculiar, unparalleled, beautiful, and majestic features. The park integrates natural conservation, sightseeing, scientific research, science education, vacationing, health retreats, and cultural entertainment.

According to the development and construction plan for Snow Peak Lake Geopark, the construction period spans 20 years (2002–2007 for the near term, 2008–2012 for the medium term, and 2013–2022 for the long term), with a total investment requirement of 978 million yuan. From 2004 to 2007, an investment of 250.12 million yuan is planned to complete the first phase of infrastructure and ecological protection projects.
