Former Site of the 11th Arsenal of the Nationalist Government in Yanxi

The former site of the 11th Arsenal of the Nationalist Government in Yanxi is located in Shuangyan Village, Yanxi Town, Anhua County. The "11th Arsenal" in Yanxi Town was originally the "Xiaoyi Arsenal of the Military Affairs Department Ordnance Bureau," situated in Xiaoyi Town, Gongxian County, Henan Province. The Xiaoyi Arsenal in Gongxian County, Henan, along with the Fengtian Arsenal in Shenyang, Liaoning, the Shanghai Arsenal in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, and the Hanyang Arsenal in Hubei, were collectively known as the "Four Major Arsenals" of the Republican era. In July 1937, due to Japan’s full-scale invasion of China, the Xiaoyi Arsenal was forced to relocate southward after suffering repeated heavy bombings by Japanese aircraft and artillery. During the relocation, it moved to Yanxi Town in Anhua County. The arsenal in Yanxi Town consisted of five subsidiary factories: Factory One was the power plant, Factory Two was the machine gun repair factory, Factory Three was the gunpowder factory, Factory Four was the artillery shell factory, and Factory Five was the rifle factory.
