The Mao Gou Cave Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Hubei Province.

Mao Gou Cave Site

Located 100 meters west of Nanzhengwa in Liangpo Village, Liangji Town, Zaoyang City, the site dates back to the Neolithic Age and the Western Zhou Dynasty. It covers an area of approximately 6,000 square meters, with a cultural layer about 1 meter thick. Exposed features include red-fired earth and ash pits. Artifacts collected include stone axes, spades, sickles, adzes, arrowheads, knives, and pottery fragments. The Neolithic pottery fragments are predominantly sandy gray pottery, with clayey gray pottery as a secondary type; decorations include basket patterns, grid patterns, string patterns, rope patterns, and appliqué patterns; vessel forms include jars, urns, bowls, cups, bean pots, basins, and spinning whorls; the site belongs to the Shijiahe culture. The Western Zhou pottery fragments are mainly sandy red pottery, with clayey black pottery as a secondary type; decorations include rope patterns, string patterns, and appliqué patterns; vessel forms include tripods, jars, vats, and basins. Additionally, Western Zhou bronze arrowheads and oracle bones have been collected. (Third Batch)
