Stone Gate Cave Stone Carvings

Stone Gate Cave is located in Gancun Village, Lianpeng Township, Dianjun District, Yichang City. Also known as Dragon King Cave, it is one of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Yichang,” referred to as the “Spiritual Cave and Immortal Pool.” In the early Ming Dynasty, it was bestowed the title “Lingji” by Emperor Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang. The cave entrance faces south, measuring 76 meters in width, 22 meters in height, and 75 meters in depth, forming three terraced levels due to natural forces. Inside the cave, there are over 40 stone tablets from the Ming, Qing, and Republican periods. Among them, the most famous include the “Layered Peaks in Emerald Hues” tablet, the “Record of Visiting Stone Gate Cave” tablet, and the “Record of Rebuilding the Lingji Hall” tablet. The cave was an important site for Taoist cultural activities in western Hubei during the Ming and Qing dynasties. (Fifth Batch)
