Site of the He Rong Battle

The Site of the He Rong Battle is a cultural tourism attraction.

Located at the former site of the He Rong Distillery in He Rong Town, Dangyang City.

In January 1948, the Jianghan Military District formed the Xiangxi Detachment primarily from the 3rd Battalion of the Guard Regiment, with Huang Dekui as detachment commander, Xu Meng as deputy detachment commander, and Wang Hongrong as chief of staff, tasked with reclaiming the liberated area of Xiangxi.

In late January 1948, in order to reopen the Jing-Dang base area and then expand toward Jiang-Zhi-Yi (Du) from Jing-Dang, the Xiangxi Detachment employed guerrilla tactics. They launched a long-range surprise attack on He Rong Town from southern Jing and successfully captured this key town in southern Dangyang. They also broke into the grain depot set up by the Dangyang County government at Tianhou Palace in He Rong Town, distributing hundreds of thousands of kilograms of rice to local residents. This battle greatly intimidated the Dangyang authorities.
