Guanyin Pavilion of Changyang is located in Longzhouping Town, Changyang Tujia Autonomous County, situated in the eastern part of the county town on the northern bank of the Qingjiang River, more than 40 kilometers from Yichang in the Three Gorges area.

Temple Introduction

The Guanyin Pavilion temple in Changyang was first built during the Ming Dynasty and is one of the important Buddhist sacred sites in Changyang. The newly compiled *Changyang County Annals* state: “Guanyin Pavilion is located under White Crane Rock to the east of Longzhouping Town. Guanyin Pavilion of Changyang is located in Longzhouping Town, Changyang Tujia Autonomous County, situated in the eastern part of the county town on the northern bank of the Qingjiang River, more than 40 kilometers from Yichang in the Three Gorges area. The Guanyin Pavilion temple in Changyang was first built during the Ming Dynasty and is one of the important Buddhist sacred sites in Changyang. The newly compiled *Changyang County Annals* state: “Guanyin Pavilion is located under White Crane Rock to the east of Longzhouping Town. It was established in the late Ming Dynasty by Li Jue, a native of Changyang and the Director of the Nanjing Ministry of Revenue. The site features towering cliffs rising perpendicularly, overlooking the river below, making it a major scenic attraction in the eastern part of the county.” For centuries, Guanyin Pavilion has enjoyed continuous and thriving incense offerings. However, since the Anti-Japanese War, the pavilion has suffered repeated damage from warfare and other upheavals.

Longzhouping Town: Longzhouping Town is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Qingjiang River, bordering Yidu to the east and Yichang to the north. It lies within the area of the “one dam and two reservoirs” (the Geheyan Hydropower Station Dam and the Gaobazhou and Geheyan reservoir areas), and is the seat of Changyang Tujia Autonomous County as well as the political, economic, and cultural center of the entire county. Within its jurisdiction, National Highway 318 and the Qingjiang Golden Waterway run east-west, while the Wangyu Provincial Road stretches north-south. The terrain is higher in the west and lower in the east, with the highest elevation at 1,740 meters and the lowest at 80 meters, and an average annual temperature of 18°C.
