The Three Gorges Dam Closure Memorial Park is situated 800 meters downstream on the right bank of the Three Gorges Dam, spanning 930,000 square meters and built with an investment of 30 million yuan. Themed around the dam closure of the Three Gorges Project, it is China’s first water conservancy-themed park that combines functions such as sightseeing, science education, performances, and leisure. The park consists of four zones: the entrance area, performance viewing area, heritage exhibition area, and amusement and rest area. It features over ten scenic spots including the Closure Chronicle Wall, performance plaza, waterside platform, holographic imaging display, large machinery exhibition area, climbing tetrahedrons, and flat-dumping barges.

The Three Gorges Dam Closure Memorial Park aims to reflect the cultural spirit of the closure project—where human will conquers nature and humanity is in harmony with it. The entire landscape design closely follows the theme of the dam closure, striving to highlight the distinctive visual features of the Yangtze River, the dam, and the engineering project, creating a unique heritage landscape effect of water conservancy infrastructure. The park has preserved as much as possible the original construction materials and objects left on-site, including the partition walls used to support sand and stone piles and over 100 tetrahedrons remaining from the closure project. It also displays large-scale construction machinery such as a 77-ton loader and flat-dumping barges.

The “Closure Reenactment” screening hall uses modern high-tech holographic imaging technology to vividly and intuitively recreate the closure of the Three Gorges. Visitors witnessing these scenes feel as if they are part of the bustling construction atmosphere. The completion and opening of the Three Gorges Dam Closure Memorial Park have enriched the cultural significance of the Three Gorges Project and added a beautiful attraction to the Three Gorges sightseeing experience.
