Near-Dam Area

The Near-Dam Area is part of the Three Gorges Dam scenic zone, located in front of the power generation plant on the left bank of the dam. It offers an up-close view of the dam and the spectacular sight of water being released through the spillways. Standing at the Near-Dam viewing platform and looking up at the dam, the 185-meter-high structure appears particularly majestic. The splashing water beneath the power plant and the orderly power lines above indicate that powerful electric currents are continuously being transmitted from here to all parts of the country.

At the same time, as your viewing angle changes, the grand and awe-inspiring spectacle of water being released from the spillway section can stir your blood. Watching the surging floodwaters and the waves they create makes one realize the immense power of nature, yet also that human ingenuity is capable of contending with nature — proving that man can indeed conquer nature！
