Huangniu Temple

Huangniu Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

Huangniu Temple is located in Huanglingmiao Village, Sandouping Town, Yichang County, also known as Huangling Temple. Legend has it that it was first built in the 16th year of the Jian’an era during the Eastern Han Dynasty (211 AD) and was constructed under the supervision of Zhuge Liang, the Chancellor of the Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period. It was rebuilt in the first year of the Dazhong era of the Tang Dynasty (847 AD) and named Huangniu Shrine, later renamed “Huangling Temple” by Ouyang Xiu of the Song Dynasty, primarily enshrining Yu the Great, and has been renovated many times since. Facing south, it covers an area of 8,300 square meters. The temple features a symmetrical central-axis layout and currently retains the Mountain Gate, Yu the Great Hall, and Wuhou Shrine.
