Gushan Temple Earthquake Stele

The Gushan Temple Earthquake Stele is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

The Gushan Temple Earthquake Stele is located inside Gushan Temple in Xigou Natural Village, Jiayu Administrative Village, Jiayu Town, Xingyang City. The main hall was rebuilt in modern times, facing south with its back to the north. The earthquake stele is embedded in the eastern wall of the temple. It dates back to the 20th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1815). The stele is 0.56 meters high and 0.6 meters wide, with vine patterns carved along its edges. It features upright script, with a total of 23 lines: the first 8 lines contain the main text in larger characters, with 14 characters per line. The next 3 lines record the grain prices at the time, followed by the names of donors who contributed to the temple’s repair and the year the stele was erected. There is no record of the author or calligrapher, nor is there a title.
