Monument to Widow Yin’s Chastity and Filial Piety

The Monument to Widow Yin’s Chastity and Filial Piety is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

The Monument to Widow Yin’s Chastity and Filial Piety is located east of Qiushe Natural Village, Qiudong Administrative Village, Qiaolou Town, Xingyang City. It was built in the 12th year of the Yongzheng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1734) to honor Yin, the wife of Chen Rang. The monument faces from north to south and is a three-bay stone memorial archway. Only the lowest tier remains today, measuring 6.23 meters in width and 3.57 meters in height. The central panel on the front is inscribed with: “Monument to the Chastity and Filial Piety of Yin, Wife of the Late Confucian Scholar Chen Rang” and “Erected by Zhang Yi, a Jinshi degree holder and magistrate of Xingyang County from Shanxi, in the 12th year of Yongzheng. Built by Chen Liangxiang, Chen Liangjie, and their grandson, a student named Wu Shi, etc.” The middle section of the lower tier features high-relief carvings of lions holding ribbons on both the central and side bays, while the side bays are adorned with relief carvings of phoenixes and floral patterns. Original stone carvings of the “Imperial Edict” plaque and ridge stone components from the archway are scattered around the village.

Qiaolou Town: Located in the central part of Xingyang City and adjacent to the urban area, Qiaolou Town borders Yulong Town to the east, Cuimiao Town to the south, and Chengguan Township to the west. The town covers a total area of 75 square kilometers, with 50,000 mu of arable land. It administers 18 administrative villages and 185 villager groups. The total population is 38,000, including 35,500 Han people and 2,500 Hui people.　

The town is situated in a semi-hilly region with a continental monsoon climate, receiving an annual precipitation of 600 mm. It has two medium-sized reservoirs, Dingdian and Chulou, which boast abundant aquatic resources.
