Heyin Pomegranate Scenic Area

The Heyin Pomegranate Scenic Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

The Heyin Pomegranate Scenic Area is located on the Mangling Ridge in the northern part of Gaocun Township, Xingyang City, with its core area situated in Liugou Village. Liugou Village is famous for its cultivation of Heyin pomegranates. With over 2,000 years of history in growing Heyin pomegranates, the village is the origin and central production area of this fruit. During the holiday season, it is also the time when Heyin pomegranates ripen and are harvested, allowing visitors to come and pick and taste them.

Heyin pomegranates were designated as a tribute to the imperial court during the prosperous Tang Dynasty, thus becoming a seasonal delicacy and a symbol of good fortune. They earned the reputation of being “a tribute fruit of the royal court, a historic specialty, and a renowned fruit of Central China.” The Song Dynasty scholar Meng Yuanlao listed Heyin pomegranates as a gourmet item in his work *The Eastern Capital: A Dream of Splendor – Food and Fruits*. The saying “Heyin pomegranates and Dangshan pears, Xingyang persimmons sweet as honey” is widely celebrated among the people.
