Songshan Geological Museum

The Songshan Geological Museum is an important part of the Songshan UNESCO Global Geopark. Located at the southern foot of Mount Song, at the base of Mount Taishi, it faces south and is surrounded by an elegant environment with lush greenery, resembling a palace filled with dazzling treasures.

The museum condenses the Songshan region within an area of less than 20 square kilometers, preserving structural relics formed 2.5 billion, 1.87 billion, and 543 million years ago. Within the less than 400 square kilometers of the Songshan area, there is a complete outcrop of the world’s only sequence of metamorphic and sedimentary rock strata from the Archean, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic eras, earning it the reputation from geologists as a “five-generation-under-one-roof” natural geological museum.

The Songshan Geological Museum is divided into a front courtyard, exhibition halls, and a rear courtyard. The front courtyard consists of gardens, a plaza, a lighted fountain, and a parking lot. The central part is the main building of the museum, which houses three exhibition halls. Currently, two halls are open to the public: the Earth Science Popularization Hall and the Songshan Geopark Hall. The third hall is under planning and design.
