Japanese Invasion Airport
The Japanese Invasion Airport is located on the east side of Shichengshi, about 1 kilometer southwest of Dengfeng city center. It was built in March 1944 when the Japanese invaders occupied Dengfeng, committing atrocities including burning, killing, and other heinous crimes. They were also responsible for the Dengfeng Massacre, in which seven innocent villagers were killed. After capturing Dengfeng, they forcibly conscripted over ten thousand local laborers from surrounding villages to construct the airport. On the evening of August 14th of the lunar calendar in 1944, Commander Pi Dingjun and Political Commissar Xu Zirong led the Henan–Shaanxi Anti-Japanese Advance Detachment to Dengfeng upon orders, liberating thirty thousand laborers who had been captured by the Japanese to build the airport at Wan Yanggang Nanping. This marked their first major victory. The airport stands as one of the pieces of evidence of the Japanese occupation of Dengfeng.
