Dengfeng Chenghuang Temple

Dengfeng Chenghuang Temple is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Dengfeng Chenghuang Temple was built in the early Ming Dynasty and has a history of nearly 700 years. Covering an area of 5,286 square meters, it currently preserves over 80 ancient structures totaling 1,663 square meters, including the mountain gate, east and west wing rooms in the front courtyard, ceremonial gate, rolled shed, main hall, and east and west corridor rooms in the rear courtyard. There are also seven Qing Dynasty stone steles, five pieces of brick and wood carvings, all of which have high historical, artistic, and scientific value. It is the only remaining ancient architectural complex in downtown Dengfeng and a Provincial Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit. The main hall of the Chenghuang Temple is well-preserved and dates back to the Qing Dynasty, possessing significant scientific value.

To leverage the advantages of the temple’s ancient architecture and geographical location, and in accordance with the principles of effective protection and rational utilization, the Dengfeng Cultural Relics Administration raised funds totaling 1.8 million yuan for renovation. It has now been transformed into the Dengfeng History Museum and opened to the public. The Dengfeng History Museum is divided into three exhibition areas: the main exhibition area features the “Dengfeng History Exhibition”; the second exhibition area hosts the “Ancient Stone Carving Art” exhibition; and the third is a temporary exhibition area.
