Junji Palace

Junji Palace is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhengzhou City.

Junji Palace is located at the southern foot of Yuzhu Peak in the Taishi Mountain of Songshan, north of Dengfeng City. It lies to the north against Yuzhu Peak, to the south near Laojun Cave, to the east adjacent to Xiaoyao Valley, and to the west beside Fawang Temple. According to historical records such as the "Dengfeng County Annals" and the "Songshan Annals," Junji Palace, commonly known as the "Stone Boat," is a famous Taoist temple on Songshan. It was named after a stone nearby that resembles a boat, and behind the palace lies a massive rock split into three pieces, often shrouded in clouds, hence called the "Cloud City Rock." The exact time of Junji Palace’s establishment is unknown, but it has undergone renovations from the late Qing Dynasty to the present. It currently consists of a two-courtyard complex, featuring seven structures including the Three Buddha Hall and Junji Palace itself, with a total of 23 rooms covering an area of about 1,000 square meters. The existing two-courtyard architectural complex of Junji Palace reflects the characteristics of Taoist architecture from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republican era. It holds significant reference value for the study of Taoist architectural styles during this period. As a Taoist site, it also provides important insights into local religious beliefs, the intermingling and mutual influence of different faiths, and the origins of related folk customs.
