Luoning Cheng Family Courtyard

The Cheng Family Courtyard is located 17 kilometers northeast of the county town. It was the former residence of Cheng Fuliang, a cavalier general bestowed with an imperial title in the early Qing Dynasty (the 20th year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign). Cheng Fuliang, courtesy name Dagong, was the 22nd-generation descendant of the famous Song Dynasty scholars Cheng Hao and Cheng Yi. In the 8th year of the Shunzhi era, he was promoted to the post of Commander-in-Chief of Huaqing.

The Cheng Family Courtyard consists of the Cheng Mansion Tower (Embroidery Tower) and five large residential compounds, covering an area of 20 mu. The Embroidery Tower is a traditional brick-and-wood structure building with three stories and no internal partitions. The first floor features a brick arch structure without beams, while the second and third floors are connected by wooden flooring. The rooms originally housed furniture such as canopy beds and tables and chairs. The furniture is exquisitely carved with clear patterns and classic, traditional designs. The five compounds include a total of 136 main rooms and 18 auxiliary rooms. Outside the courtyards are structures such as the Guanglu Temple, the Cheng Ancestral Hall, the Spring Breeze Pavilion, and the Standing Snow Pavilion. Each courtyard entrance is adorned with stone drums, stone bells, and horse-tying stones, and the gate walls feature delicate brick carvings. The surrounding area of the courtyard is filled with bamboo groves, offering a pleasant environment and beautiful scenery.
