Baisha Lake Scenic Area

Baisha Lake Scenic Area is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Nestled in the heart of the Central Plains, at the foot of Songshan Mountain, and by the banks of the Ying River lies a picturesque landscape paradise—Baisha Lake Scenic Area.

Also known as the Baisha Reservoir, the scenic area is located about 60 li (approximately 30 kilometers) northwest of Yuzhou City and 35 kilometers southeast of Dengfeng, bordering Wangcun Township of our city. It lies at the central point between the provincial capitals Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Xuchang. National Highway 207 passes by the southern entrance of the scenic area.

The lake is surrounded by mountains with overlapping peaks and thriving green cypresses. At night, you can hear the rustling of pine waves; in the morning, watch the sunrise over Songshan Gate; and in the evening, admire the sunset glow over the calm lake. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, all you hear is the “birds singing in the empty mountains.” The waters of Baisha Lake sparkle like a million emeralds, offering a dreamlike experience that feels like wandering in a fairyland.

Baisha Lake is rich in historical sites, providing an excellent destination for reflecting on ancient times, ascending platforms to enjoy the view, and contemplating the present. Standing at Dongling Pass, you can imagine the heroic figure of Guan Yu, who “pulled up mountains and overwhelmed the world with his might,” as he rode his horse and wielded his blade past the Five Passes and slew Six Generals. At the Yuxi Fishing Spot, you can experience the fishing technique of Jiang Taigong, who waited for the willing fish to bite. Those who appreciate serenity can explore the Guigudong Cave to relive the ingenious strategies of Guiguzi. Adventure seekers can listen to the fascinating legends of “Yaowaitan,” “Ghost-Built City,” and “Heilongtan.”

The mysterious Baisha Lake Scenic Area not only boasts beautiful mountains and clear waters and numerous historical sites but also offers cultural attractions everywhere. Buddhist and Taoist temples such as the “Guandi Temple,” “Jiulong Temple,” and “Zushi Temple” fulfill the wishes of the devout for peace and safety. Ancient stockades scattered within dozens of kilometers around the scenic area allow you to experience local customs and rural charm.

With its vast waters and good water quality, the shores of Baisha Lake have been developed over the years into a leisure and holiday resort, equipped with various tourism facilities. There are pleasure boats on the lake offering a range of recreational activities. In summer, visitors can swim and fish here, and spending a night is also quite pleasant.

From Zhengzhou: Take the Zhengshao Expressway → exit at Lidian → take Xugong Highway (toward Xuchang, 30 km) → Baisha Reservoir.

From Xuchang: Take the Xuluo Highway via Yuzhou (toward Luoyang, 65 km) → Baisha Reservoir.

From Dengfeng (toward Xuchang, 30 km) → Baisha Reservoir.
