Yanzhai Site

The Yanzhai Site is a cultural heritage site protected by the Henan Provincial Government.

The Yanzhai Site, located in Yanzhai Village, Huashi Township, Yuzhou City, is a cultural heritage site under the third batch of protection by the Henan Provincial Government, primarily featuring remains from the Longshan Culture period (a broad term referring to a type of cultural relic from the late Neolithic Age in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, belonging to the Chalcolithic Age).

The Yanzhai Site extends 1,500 meters from east to west and 1,000 meters from north to south, with the cultural layer located 20 centimeters underground and about 2.5 meters thick. On the surface and along cliff edges, numerous ash layers, ash pits, and red-fired earth blocks mixed with straw can be seen. The pottery shards found here display gray sandy textures with grid and diagonal grid patterns, as well as black polished and gray plain designs. Artifacts unearthed include dou (food vessels), ding (tripod cauldrons), guan (jars), pen (basins), cups, and plain gray pottery spinning wheels. Stone tools such as axes and spades were also discovered among the production implements.
