Ancient City of Yu State

The Ancient City of Yu State is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Ancient City of Yu State is located east of Yutai Village, about 15 kilometers northwest of Qinyang County. The Yu State was the fief of the Marquis of E during the Shang Dynasty. In the Western Zhou period, the Marquis of E moved southward, and King Wu of Zhou granted this land to his son, Shu Yu. This is recorded in Xu Guang’s annotations in Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Commentary on the Water Classic (Shuijingzhu), and the Henan County Annals, among others. Currently, only the northern wall of the site remains, stretching 820 meters from east to west and 17–22 meters in width, with a height of 2–7 meters. So far, no comprehensive drilling or excavation has been carried out at the site. To the northwest outside the city lies the ancient Yuguo Tomb Cluster, which remains unexcavated. Approximately 1 kilometer northwest of the ancient city, there is also a smaller walled settlement built during the Warring States period and renovated in the Qing Dynasty. Stone inscriptions on the four city gates include names such as "Welcoming the Dawn" (迎旭) and "Ancient Yu City" (古于城). Today, very little of the city walls remain, but the stone inscription bearing the name "Ancient Yu City" has been preserved. In June 1963, it was designated as one of the first batch of provincial-level cultural heritage protection units in Henan Province.
