Danhe Canyon Scenic Area

Danhe Canyon is located 16 kilometers northeast of Qinyang City, Jiaozuo, Henan Province, and 35 kilometers from Jiaozuo City, covering a total area of 76 square kilometers. It features 132 large and small attractions, making it a leisure tourism destination that combines natural scenery, cultural landscapes, and folk culture.

The scenic landscape of Danhe Canyon is grand and magnificent, known as a natural leisure resort characterized by its "antiquity, serenity, beauty, uniqueness, and simplicity." The winding Danhe River runs through the entire area, its waters shimmering like jade and emerald, encircling the landscape with countless bends. The rugged and steep Mount Kelaoyao offers panoramic views of the entire Danhe River when climbed, with surrounding peaks forming a majestic amphitheater. The Danhe River flows gracefully, reflecting the sky, inviting visitors to fish by the riverbank, play in the water, or float downstream on a rubber raft, enjoying the freedom of "drifting with the current, going wherever the wind takes you."

Danhe Canyon is rich in diverse cultural attractions. The Song Fort, built during the Song Dynasty, is massive and well-preserved, earning the reputation as the "No. 1 Fortress in the Central Plains." The scenic area also boasts vibrant folk culture. Here, visitors can savor wild game and vegetables with strong local flavors, play chess or enjoy tea and moon-gazing in rural farmhouses, and experience unique folk customs such as water mills and cockfighting. "The beauty of Danxia is like poetry and painting; the splendor of its blue waves stirs deep emotion" is a summary of the canyon. The area is abundant in flora and fauna, with over 100 animal species and 200 plant species, including the nationally protected second-class animal, the leopard, as well as valuable medicinal herbs like Bupleurum, hence its title as the "Taihang Medicine Treasury." "Four or five immortals, carefree guests in Orchid Lane, bathe in the depths of Dan, illuminated by the sun and moon"—in the poetic imagery of ancient verses, Danhe Canyon awaits you in picturesque splendor.

In recent years, the scenic area has invested over 20 million yuan to improve its service facilities, enhance internal management, and elevate service quality. It has developed five large water amusement parks, continuously expanded the exploration of Shenxian Cave and the Song Fort, and built 60 family-run guesthouses with 800 beds across three folk tourism villages: Jiudu, Niulongzui, and Yangzhuanghe. With its uniquely high-standard folk hospitality services and idyllic rural life away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the area attracts a large number of tourists and provides urban dwellers weary of concrete jungles with the perfect place to unwind completely.

The landscapes of Danhe Canyon are praised as the "Little Guilin of Northern Henan," among which the Wild Kings’ Two Elders Stone is even recorded in the *Ciyuan* dictionary, making it a major highlight of the scenic area. Known as the "No. 1 Cave in China," Shenxian Cave stretches 2,020 meters long, with twisting, deep, and undulating passages that form a cave-within-a-cave structure resembling nine twists and eighteen bends. The caverns feature interconnected domes, offering visitors an ever-changing sense of stepping into a new world with every step.

By car: Take the Beijing–Shijiazhuang Expressway from Liuliqiao — Shijiazhuang South Toll Station — Shijiazhuang–Anyang Expressway — Linzhang Toll Station — Anyang–Xinxiang Expressway — Exit at Xinxiang — Drive through Huojia, Xiuwu, and Jiaozuo City — Jiaowang Highway — Head north from Shanwangzhuang — Changping Township.
