Gouwan Site

The Gouwan Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Henan Province.

The Gouwan Site, originally known as the Xiajixia Site, is located on the second-level terrace on the east bank of the Lao Guan River (formerly known as the Xi River), east of Gouwan Group in Zhangying Village, Shangji Town, Xichuan County, Henan Province. It is surrounded by mountains and situated in a basin, with small hills to the east, Zoumaling to the south, Fengzishan Mountain to the west, and Xiaobeishan Mountain to the north. In 1958, the Cultural Relics Work Team of the Henan Provincial Department of Culture (formerly the Henan Branch of the Changjiang River Archaeological Team) surveyed and discovered the site, and conducted a small-scale excavation in 1959, uncovering cultural remains from the Yangshao, Qujialing, and Longshan periods. In 1989, the site was designated as a key cultural heritage protection unit of Henan Province.
