The Suying Site

The Suying Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Dengzhou City.

The Suying Site is located in Suying Village, Xijizhen Township, about 13 kilometers northeast of Dengzhou City, on the southern bank of the Yanling River. The site features a gentle slope, covers an area of approximately 50,000 square meters, and has a cultural layer 2–3 meters thick. It was discovered in 1957 and designated as a county-level cultural heritage protection unit.

Artifacts collected from the Suying Site include: stone tools such as polished stone axes, stone spades, stone adzes, and stone chisels; pottery items such as tripods, jars, basins, cups, bowls, and spinning whorls, primarily made of red pottery and gray pottery, with fewer examples of black pottery. Decorative patterns mainly consist of cord marks, along with incised designs, checkered patterns, and appliqué ridges. Analysis of the collected artifacts indicates that the Suying Site is a late Neolithic cultural site, holding significant archaeological value for the study of Dengzhou’s prehistoric culture.

　   Xijizhen Township is located in the northeastern part of Dengzhou City, bordering Zhenping County to the north. It covers an area of 113.1 square kilometers and has 119,428 mu of arable land. The township government is seated in Xijizhen.
