Xiagang Site

The Xiagang Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Dengzhou City.

The Xiagang Site, also known as the Heilong Temple Site, is located to the east of the Heilongmiao Group in Xiahaogang Village, Linpa Town, approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Dengzhou City. It is a settlement site primarily featuring remains from the Neolithic Age. The site is mound-shaped, with a cultural layer 1–2 meters thick and an area of about 50,000 square meters. It was designated as a county-level cultural heritage protection unit in 1975.

In the 1970s, local villagers discovered the site while digging a drainage channel. As the channel cut through the site, it caused partial damage. Discoveries included remnants of house foundations made of red-burnt clay blocks, ash pits, and artifacts such as pottery and stone tools. The pottery was mostly red or gray, mixed with sand, and a small amount of polished eggshell-thin black pottery was also found. Artifacts included tripods, li cooking vessels, jars, bowls, cups, and bowls, while stone tools such as axes and adzes were polished.

The Xiagang Site is a Neolithic site primarily featuring Longshan Culture remains and is one of the important sites for studying the prehistoric culture of Dengzhou.
