Chahan Nur National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Chahan Nur National Wetland Park is located in Dayingpan Township, Shangyi County, Hebei Province. The park covers a total area of 5,400 hectares, including 3,600 hectares of water surface. The landscape of the park fully demonstrates the complete evolutionary process of a dry to semi-arid grassland gradually transitioning into marsh wetlands and a saltwater lake. The clear zonal distribution of vegetation around the lake is distinct, making it a natural resource bank of halophytic meadow vegetation. It also serves as a habitat, breeding ground, migration stopover, and “refueling station” for numerous nationally protected bird species. It is an ideal site for wetland biodiversity research, education, science outreach, and holds high conservation and scientific value.

“Chahan Nur” means “White Lake” in Mongolian. Ten years ago, due to natural conditions, the water level of Chahan Nur gradually decreased, turning it into a dry to semi-arid grassland. In recent years, with Shangyi County vigorously implementing afforestation, greening, and water conservancy projects, the ecological environment has continuously improved. The water level of Chahan Nur has risen steadily, evolving into a saltwater lake with a water surface of 3,600 hectares, encompassing 26 large and small lakes. Currently, the Chahan Nur wetland is home to 161 species of wild plants, 12 species of aquatic benthic and planktonic animals, and 141 species of birds. It serves as a vital habitat, breeding ground, migration stopover, and “refueling station” for numerous bird species. In early 2013, it was approved by the State Forestry Administration for the construction of a national-level wetland park.

Chahan Nur National Wetland Park is planned to include five functional zones: wetland conservation area, restoration and reconstruction area, education and exhibition area, rational utilization area, and management service area. Once completed, it will become a park integrating four major functions: wetland ecological sightseeing, wetland science education, wetland leisure and vacation, and wetland cultural experience.

Dayingpan Township: Dayingpan Township of Shangyi County is located in the northern part of Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province, on the southern edge of the Inner Mongolia grassland, bordering Shangdu County of Inner Mongolia. It is adjacent to Beijing and Tianjin, enjoying significant geographical advantages. The township governs 6 administrative villages and 41 natural villages, with a population of 13,011 across 5,241 households. It covers a land area of 380,000 mu, including 72,000 mu of forested land (including 67,000 mu of returned farmland), 80,400 mu of cultivated land (including 27,000 mu of irrigated land), 140,000 mu of natural grassland, and 17,000 mu of Chahan Nur Lake.
