Dong Cunrui Martyrs Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

Dong Cunrui Martyrs Memorial Hall is located in Nanshanbao Village, Cunrui Town, Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province—the hometown of the hero. For fifty years, the hero’s deeds have been widely celebrated across the nation. The hero’s name is known to every household, and his spirit has inspired millions of passionate youths to dedicate themselves to the peace and construction of the motherland. The people of Huailai take great pride in this as well.

To commemorate and honor Martyr Dong Cunrui, in July 1951, an old temple in Nanshanbao was converted into the Dong Cunrui Martyrs Shrine. In August 1967, the Huailai County Committee and Huailai County People’s Government decided to build the Dong Cunrui Martyrs Memorial Hall in the hero’s hometown—Nanshanbao, Huailai County. It was completed in June 1968. In 2006, the Huailai County Committee and Huailai County People’s Government decided to expand the memorial on the site of the original building. On May 25, 2008, the 60th anniversary of Martyr Dong Cunrui’s sacrifice, the new hall was completed and opened to the public.

In August 2009, it was designated as a Hebei Provincial Patriotic Education Base. It serves as a multifunctional venue integrating patriotic education, integrity education, and national defense education. It has played a significant role in promoting the spirit of Dong Cunrui—“the interests of the people above all”—in the new era, inspiring the morale of the people of Huailai, and uniting both the Party and the public. The entire Dong Cunrui Memorial Hall recreates a magnificent epic of the eternal life of Martyr Dong Cunrui.
