2017In [year]9In June, located in the Guanting Public Art Town to the northwest of Beijing, another architectural gem “grew” out of the natural landscape — the Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery. It enjoys the closest position within the town to Guanting Lake, not only offering panoramic views of the lake but also serving as an experiential art space within the Guanting Public Art Town.

9On [date]22to23, themed “The Joyful Explorers of Life,” the Guanting Public Art Town hosted a cross-media experiential event for the Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery. Nearly20mainstream media leaders from the fields of lifestyle, architecture, home furnishing, and real estate gathered in the Guanting Public Art Town. Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery: An Artistic Extension Between Mountains and Lake Built on the Concept of Sharing

Leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the city, as the car entered the Guanting Public Art Town, the surroundings suddenly felt brighter. The crystal-clear lake surface seemed almost magical, instantly shifting one’s mood to a state of freedom and joy.

At the media tasting event of the Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery, under the guidance of a painting instructor, guests unleashed their creativity to co-create a painting. The scenery of the Guanting Public Art Town echoed the beauty depicted in the artwork. Later, the media gathered “to meet through literature,” passionately reciting well-known literary works such as “Before the Door” and “Walden,” deeply moving the audience and drawing rounds of applause. During the dinner, amidst clinking glasses, guests engaged in a cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas and art.

The Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery is situated at the closest point in the town to Guanting Lake, boasting the best views of both mountain and lake. Since the idea of this waterside public space was conceived, it has been guided by the philosophy of “coexisting with nature and sharing with residents.” As Shen Xianguo, the chairman of the project’s development team, put it, this most beautiful scenery is a gift from nature. We must not let it go to waste, nor should it become an exclusive “luxury” enjoyed by a few. Instead, it should serve as an artistic extension of life between mountain and lake, to be shared by all residents of the Guanting Public Art Town and anyone who loves this view.

As a project designed to coexist with nature, the architectural design of the Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery itself emphasizes seamless integration with the environment. The building uses bamboo — a material capable of engaging in dialogue with people and radiating warmth — as its facade material. The entire building facade employs bamboo grilles as a medium to create an intriguing visual progression, breaking the boundary between solid and void, and introducing layers of separation, visibility, and accessibility between interior and exterior.

In terms of internal spatial planning, the designer enhances spatial quality through the concept of a “shared inner courtyard.” The interior spaces either face the lake directly, wind through secluded paths, capture shafts of sunlight, or dance with light and shadow. The “shared inner courtyard” runs through the building, with some areas visible and accessible, others visible but not reachable, creating a dynamic and fluid spatial experience where every step reveals a new scene. Here, one can fully appreciate the multi-layered contrast and variation between the indoor foreground and the distant views of Guanting Lake.

Positioned as a composite waterside public cultural space, the Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery will become a place where artistic life flourishes amid breathtaking scenery. It is not only a leisure space for town residents but also a venue where strangers become familiar with one another, eventually forming shared memories and a collective cultural identity. Leveraging the various possibilities offered by the Guanting Lakeside Art Gallery, the space will host a variety of cultural, commercial, and artistic activities in the future, becoming a destination that caters to the spiritual needs of the new middle class.

Guanting Public Art Town: Forging the Ideal Holiday Destination

What is true luxury for people today?

In the21Century Dictionary, the definition of luxury is no longer about accumulating possessions, but rather about having the freedom to control one’s time, avoid crowds and traffic, return to nature, experience life, rediscover oneself, embrace simplicity, self-design, and make choices regarding services, holiday destinations, wellness, education, cuisine, and entertainment.

And the Guanting Public Art Town, nestled by Guanting Lake to the northwest of Beijing, with its superior natural endowment and carefully curated development, has undoubtedly become a place where the new middle class can shift their life scenes, temporarily escape the urban grind, enjoy a “luxurious natural” lifestyle, and return to themselves and their families.

The Guanting Public Art Town follows the contours of the land and the long lakeshore, naturally divided into tranquil bays. With a town-like planning scale, it integrates functions such as living, parenting, sports, wellness, and leisure, forming a holistic ecosystem of health, art, and family.,giving a new meaning to holidays. The project arranges different business formats organically among the various bays according to the terrain, blending culture with the landscape and integrating architecture into nature, allowing every resident to enjoy unique perspectives of the lake, to merge with it, and to savor it at their own pace.

In recent years, the Guanting Lake area has been included in the Capital Ecological Conservation Zone, making green, ecological, and pollution-free living synonymous with the region. In the future, with the further improvement of transportation networks, areas such as Yanqing and Zhangjiakou in Hebei will form a loop, creating an Olympic Circle, while also contributing to a large ecological barrier for western Beijing together with Huailai. The region’s value is becoming increasingly prominent. With the continuous development of the area and the project’s distinctive artistic features, the future prospects of the Guanting Public Art Town are highly promising.
