Mazhan Site

The Mazhan Site is a cultural heritage protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Mazhan Site is located within the submerged line of the yellow sandy soil area of the Guishui River (now known as the Guanting Reservoir), approximately 1,000 meters north of Xiaogucheng Village, Xiaonanxinfu Township, Huailai County.

The site area is 17 kilometers north of Shacheng, the seat of Huailai County Government, 1,500 meters northeast of the Guishui River Bridge on the Beijing-Baotou Railway, and 2,000 meters south of the seat of Xiaonanxinfu Township Government and the east-west running Kangqi Asphalt Highway. Approximately 3,000 meters further south lies the Jundu Mountain Range.

The eastern section of the site is about 500 meters long and only 30 meters wide from north to south. The northern part of the site is submerged in the lake, and the visible area at that time was approximately 15,000 square meters. The surface of the site is scattered with five types of pottery shards: gray clay pottery, black clay pottery, brown clay pottery, gray sandy pottery, and brown sandy pottery, as well as finely polished stone tools. Since no cross-section has been observed, the thickness and stratigraphic accumulation of the cultural layer remain unclear.

In July 1982, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural heritage protection unit by the People's Government of Hebei Province.
