Langya Ridge Miao Family Reservoir

The Langya Ridge Miao Family Reservoir is a cultural heritage site protected by Laizhou City.

The Langya Ridge Miao Family Reservoir is situated on Langya Ridge, south of Xiaolangya Village, Zhuiqiao Town, Laizhou City. It was completed in August 1977 as part of the Laizhou City East-to-West Water Diversion Project. The reservoir is circular, with an area of 12,883 square meters and a depth of approximately 8 meters, constructed from bluestone. A protective railing was built around the reservoir, but it is no longer in use. A main gate was erected on the northern side, inscribed with the words “Langya Ridge Miao Family Commune Reservoir,” while a side gate features a couplet reading “Diverting water from the Wang River, irrigating tens of thousands of acres of fields.” Slogans painted on the reservoir’s walls have faded and become illegible. In 1977, thousands of members of the Miao Family Commune joined forces to work tirelessly, making it a model for the county’s Learn from Dazhai in Agriculture campaign at the time. The slogan then was “There is no winter on Langya Ridge; we keep working even when the ground is frozen three feet deep.” The reservoir has been out of use for many years, lacks proper maintenance, and is unmanaged. Some sections of the railing are damaged, and silt has accumulated at the bottom. The site holds significant reference value for understanding the production conditions during the People's Commune period of the 1970s.

In 2012, it was designated as a Key Cultural Heritage Site of Laizhou City.
