Tiger Head Cliff Lighthouse

The Tiger Head Cliff Lighthouse is a protected cultural heritage site of Laizhou City.

The Tiger Head Cliff Lighthouse is located east of Tiger Head Cliff Village in Laizhou City. The lighthouse stands approximately 12.5 meters tall and 6.2 meters wide, covering a floor area of about 25 square meters. It has four levels: the ground level is a stone base, 2.85 meters high; the second and third levels are constructed from blue bricks, each about 8 meters high; and the top level is the glass-encased lantern section, about 1.65 meters high. The entire structure is shaped like a hexagonal pyramid, with the southern face measuring 2.76 meters wide, and the eastern sides progressively measuring 2.69 meters, 2.69 meters, 2.71 meters, 2.71 meters, and 2.73 meters. The entrance faces southwest, standing 2.3 meters high and 1.28 meters wide. There is one gun port each on the northwest and northeast sides at the ground level. Small windows are located on the second and third levels of the east and northeast walls, as well as on the third level of the southeast wall and the second and third levels of the west wall. The building is well-preserved, with a stable foundation structure that largely retains its original appearance. Prior to the Republican era, Tiger Head Cliff was an important military seaport and trade dock. The elevated platform where the lighthouse stands is the site of the Mabuzhai military facility from the Ming Dynasty in Laizhou. Not far to the northwest along the cliff is a cliff carving inscription by Li Hongzhang, and to the west of the village lies the site of the former Tiger Head Cliff Commercial Guild Hall. The discovery of the Tiger Head Cliff Village lighthouse provides valuable physical reference for studying the coastal culture of eastern Shandong and the design of lighthouses.

In 2012, it was designated as a key cultural heritage site under the protection of Laizhou City.
