Former Site of Hui Chang Trading Firm

The former site of Hui Chang Trading Firm is a cultural heritage site protected by Laizhou City.

The former site of Hui Chang Trading Firm is located in Xidujiavillage, Shahe Town, Laizhou City. It was the original site of a business establishment owned by the Du family, a prominent clan in Laizhou during the Republic of China period. Originally a three-courtyard, two-hall complex, only 16 rooms remain today: five storefront rooms, five main rooms, and three rooms on each of the east and west sides, covering a total area of 256 square meters. The main rooms feature bluestone foundations, brick walls, and flush gable roofs, with a width of 13.6 meters and a depth of 5.2 meters. The central part of the storefront rooms serves as a grand gateway, higher than the other rooftops, with a two-step staircase and square drum stones on either side. The east and west side rooms also have bluestone foundations and brick walls, with flush gable roofs, each measuring 7.6 meters in width and 4.2 meters in depth. The site is currently used as offices for the village committee. The former site of Hui Chang Trading Firm is of significant value for studying the economic conditions of Laizhou during the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, as well as the vernacular architecture of eastern Shandong.

In 2012, it was designated as a key cultural heritage site under the protection of Laizhou City.
