China Gold Museum

The China Gold Museum is situated in Zhaoyuan, dubbed the “Gold Capital of China,” which boasts numerous historical gold mining sites. With a total investment of 163 million yuan and a construction area of 6,950 square meters, it is the first immersive, real-scene museum in China. This museum breaks away from the outdated showcase-style exhibits of traditional museums. While preserving the fundamental functions of a traditional museum—collection, education, science communication, and research—it also makes full use of modern high-tech methods such as sound, light, electricity, animation, and holographic imaging. It embodies an exhibition philosophy centered on “participation, interaction, experience, and scenarization.” Blending ancient and modern, Chinese and international elements with the rich history of gold culture in Zhaoyuan, the museum allows visitors to experience the profound historical legacy and unique artistic charm of gold. The entire museum is designed over two floors. The first floor houses seven exhibition halls, including the Shared Hall, Eternal Golden Spirit, Golden Years, and Flames Refining Gold, primarily introducing the gold culture history of Zhaoyuan, the Gold Capital of China. The second floor features six exhibition halls, including the World Gold Journey, Chinese Gold Culture, and Gold Trading Hall, focusing on showcasing and demonstrating the processes of gold mining, smelting, processing, and the historical and cultural heritage of gold from ancient times to the present and across the world.

The Zhaoyuan Gold Museum is the largest gold museum in China and a key patriotic education base for youth. From 1988 to 2002, a total of 1.585 billion yuan was invested in the construction of rural mines in Zhaoyuan, completing 86 infrastructure and technical renovation projects. The mining and beneficiation scale reached 13,000 tons per day, with an annual gold production of 816,500 taels and tax and profit revenues of 720 million yuan. After the opening of the gold market, Zhaoyuan’s gold industry expanded rapidly. In addition to existing deep-processing of gold, the region successfully introduced jewelry deep-processing projects from the United States, South Korea, Italy, Hong Kong, and Taiwan... Since its establishment, the Zhaoyuan Gold Museum has received recognition from both central and local government leaders, attracting 300,000 visitors annually and being included in the "China Tourist Attractions Dictionary."
