Zhaoyuan Martyrs' Cemetery

Zhaoyuan Martyrs' Cemetery is a classic site on China’s red tourism routes.

Zhaoyuan Martyrs' Cemetery is located on Wenquan Road in Zhaoyuan City. Zhaoyuan was one of the revolutionary bases in eastern Shandong. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, national hero Zhao Shuce sacrificed his life heroically while covering the evacuation of the district government and the munitions factory. During the Liberation War, General Xu Shiyou commanded the famous Daotou Blocking Battle in Zhaoyuan, seizing the initiative on the Jiaodong battlefield. In peacetime, Shao Yunhuan, an outstanding daughter of the people of Zhaoyuan, died a heroic death during the U.S. bombing of the Chinese Embassy in the former Yugoslavia. The cemetery was established in 1960, covers an area of 192,000 square meters, and is the resting place of 2,193 martyrs. It features a Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, a Martyrs Memorial Pavilion, a Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall, and a martyrs’ tomb area. – inscribed the name of the cemetery. It is a provincial-level martyrs’ memorial facility protection unit in Shandong Province.
