Foundation Chamber of Jingzhong Temple Pagoda

The Foundation Chamber of Jingzhong Temple Pagoda is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Foundation Chamber of Jingzhong Temple Pagoda is located on Xinli Street in Dingzhou City, Hebei Province.

The original pagoda has been destroyed, leaving only its foundation chamber. Built during the Northern Song Dynasty, the chamber is square-shaped, constructed of brick, covering an area of 7.2 square meters, and standing 2.34 meters high. Its roof opening is covered with a stone-carved hip-and-gable roof, and the southern arched doorway is flanked by paintings of heavenly kings. At the center of the northern wall is a painted memorial tablet for Sakyamuni. On either side are painted images of five disciples each. The eastern and western walls depict scenes of the Heavenly King Shakra and Brahma worshiping the Buddha. Over a hundred pieces of Ding porcelain were unearthed here, including a white-glazed carved dragon-head ewer standing 60.7 centimeters tall.

As an ancient building from the Song Dynasty, the Foundation Chamber of Jingzhong Temple Pagoda was included in the sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
