The Dingzhou South Gate is a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province.

The Dingzhou South Gate, a cultural relic protection unit of Hebei Province, is also known as the "Yingtai Gate." Built in the early years of the Hongwu reign during the Ming Dynasty, it has a history of over 600 years. At that time, Dingzhou’s regional commander Ping An expanded the old city walls to strengthen defenses against northern invaders. Temples were demolished, walls were reconstructed, temple bells destroyed, weapons forged, and a new 13-kilometer-long city wall was built, along with east, west, south, and north gates. Each gate was equipped with a barbican and crescent wall. Multi-eaved watchtowers were constructed atop each gate as command posts for surveillance and military operations. The inner gate structures were majestic and imposing, with city walls standing 12 meters high, gate towers reaching 8 meters, and the walls themselves 22 meters wide. Subsequent renovations were carried out during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty and the Kangxi, Yongzheng, and Daoguang eras of the Qing Dynasty. Due to historical changes, only parts of the city wall and three gates remain today.

In 1999, the Dingzhou municipal government invested over one million yuan to reinforce and restore the South Gate, reconstructing the inner gate tower. This transformed the previously dilapidated condition of the old gate, presenting visitors with an imposing and awe-inspiring fortress adorned with fluttering flags. From the ramparts, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Dingzhou’s modern landscape.
